Selecting a Bullet proof Glass Barrier System

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

The following is a list of items to consider when researching and selecting a bullet resistant barrier system.

  1. Level of protection: UL Level I to Level III.
  2. Type of system: arch, baffle, or secure sound.
  3. Type of material: acrylic or polycarbonate.
  4. Type of coating: uncoated or abrasion resistant coating intended to prevent scratching during general cleaning.
  5. Provide a friendly access portal for staff/customer interface by selecting a bullet proof barrier system that promotes natural voice transmission.
  6. Your bullet resistant barrier system should be free-standing to provide clean, unrestricted site lines enabling surveillance cameras clear access through the system to eliminate check fraud.
  7. All acrylic or polycarbonate edges should be sanded and polished for a clear, professional finish.
  8. For increased security, add ballistic fiberglass in knee spaces and risers.
  9. Slot Louvers added above your bullet resistant barrier system can increase air flow.

Modern Marvels features Total Security Solutions in upcoming episode on Bank Security and Bullet Proof Glass Barriers

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

The crew of Modern Marvels, a History channel documentary show, spent a day at Total Security Solutions’ facility in Fowlerville, Michigan filming and conducting interviews for an upcoming special on bank security. The episode will address all aspects of bank security, but Total Security Solutions will be the only company featured in the field of bulletproof glass.

Jim Richards, the Vice President of Total Security Solutions, spent Monday, May 18th showing the Modern Marvels crew around their facility and walking them through the bullet proof glass barrier manufacturing process. Jim discussed the most common bullet resistant barriers, including arch window and baffle window systems.

Total Security Solutions also demonstrated how a bullet resistant barrier system goes from a single sheet of bullet resistant transparency – either acrylic, polycarbonate, glass-clad polycarbonate or bullet proof glass – to a complete bullet resistant barrier. Using a computer-driven manufacturing process, Total Security Solutions is able to take a precise architectural CAD drawing and output all the required system components to their exact specifications.

Modern Marvels focuses on technology, the history behind it, and how it is used in today’s society. The bank security episode is scheduled to air in October/November 2009.

Just 10 days after it was robbed earlier this month, the Wachovia Bank in the Towne Center shopping area at 12310 Seal Beach Blvd. was robbed again this past Friday. This is the third robbery of a Seal Beach Wachovia Bank and the fifth West Orange County bank robbery this year. Unlike the other 2 Wachovia robberies, this time, the suspect did not use a bicycle to escape.

In addition to the 3 robberies at Wachovia Banks, there has been one at the Bank Of America in Los Alamitos, and one at the Washington Mutual in Seal Beach. The FBI arrested Brian Keith Robinson, 49, of Los Angeles, in connection with the January 10 robbery of the Seal Beach Washington Mutual bank. The other suspects remain at large.

On Friday, May 15, 2009 the Seal Beach Police Department received a call via the emergency 911 system which indicated the Wachovia Bank located in the Towne Center shopping area had just been robbed. Responding Officers contacted employees of the bank and found that a male subject had entered the bank and walked to a teller window, presented a note and demanded money. The suspect then ran southbound through the parking lot, out of sight.

The robbery suspect is described as a male black in his 30’s with a medium complexion, a bushy moustache, 5-8 in height, having a muscular build. The suspect was wearing a light “hoodie” sweat shirt, a dark golfer’s type of cap, with dark knee length pants and dark shoes.

There was no weapon seen and the suspect was last seen on foot. The loss was an undetermined amount of cash. Anyone that may have additional information is requested to contact Detective Gary Krogman at the Seal Beach Police Department (562) 799-4100 extension 1108.
